No words can do justice to how much debate meant to me when I was younger and how much it means to me now. Showing up to English High School, nervous but ready. The pain and humiliation of defeat. Movies and food with friends who were, just moments ago, the competition. The many practices and mad dashes to the train to make it to work all the way in Watertown. The sweet and savory taste of victory. The power of friendship/mentorship, as manifest as it ever could be.
Every year the Boston Debate League gives this experience to thousands of young people in Boston. Discipline, hard work, commitment, sacrifice. The bedrock of my many successes is also what you need to embrace the debate crucible.
Unfortunately, money is required to not only keep the lights on, but dream of expansion. Food, buses, tournament space (to name a few expenses) are expensive and not getting cheaper. Please help, no matter how small, for it helps the debaters gain the tools to do well in school and make the world a better place.
TLDR: Debate changed my life for the better. It also changed many other peoples lives for the better. Thousands of students in Boston and greater Boston participate in our program. Food, busses, tournament space, (to name a few expenses) are not getting cheaper. Please help no matter how small for it helps the debaters gain the tools to do good in school and make the world a better place.
